Fitting the fixed braces

Information for Patients who are going to have their fixed braces (train tracks) fitted

Your next appointment is for fitting your orthodontic braces. It can last up to 60 minutes. We will give you full information about the care of your braces after fitting them. You will also need to get some special toothbrushes on this day. We recommend buying 2 toothbrushes to carry the second one with you when you are not at home (for example to use at lunch time if you are out). You need to attend your appointment about 15 minutes before it is due.

Please also note the following:

  • If you have been told that you need to have teeth taken out, try to make an appointment with your dentist 3-4 weeks before your next appointment with your orthodontist. The braces can be fitted regardless of when the extractions are done, even if they are done after fitting the braces.
  • Please note that it is your responsibility to make this appointment with your dentist, as the dentist will not usually contact you to make this appointment. Phone your dentist ASAP to give your dentist enough notice to book you for the extraction appointment(s).
  • If for any reasons you cannot make this appointment with your dentist before your “fit brace appointment” with us, DO NOT CANCEL your appointment for fitting the braces. It is still possible to take the teeth out afterwards. It might be a long time before we can rebook you for fitting the braces.
  • If you are going to receive any dental treatments other than extractions (for example, fillings) from your normal dentist before having your braces fitted and you cannot get an appointment with your normal dentist before fitting your braces, please contact us as soon as possible to change your appointment for fitting the braces. Please note it is your responsibility to contact the orthodontist to change your appointment with us and your normal dentist is not responsible for this.
  • When you are making your appointment for fitting the braces, please make sure that the appointment date and time suit you. There is a “penalty charge of £30 to £60” depending of the length of your appointment for failing to attend or late cancellations*. Please note that the Practice will incur a lot more financial loss than this amount for your failure to attend. The above charge is only to deter patients from failing to keep their appointment. Please kindly note that there is no exception for the penalty charge.
  • If you arrive late your orthodontist may not be able to fit your braces, which means that his/her time is lost. This would incur the above charge.
  • We sometimes try to remind you about your appointments the day before or change your appointments via phone. Please make sure we always have your correct daytime telephone number and inform the reception of any changes as soon as possible.
